I love french toast on a Sunday morning. It’s a little treat to start off the day and takes less than 10 minutes to pull together. The blend of eggs, cinnamon, maple syrup, and berries with a little cream (optional) is perfect and it’s made even better with some quality sour dough. The plain sour dough from your local supermarket will more than suffice but if you fancy a trip to your nearest farmers market you’ll be able to find some great artesian bread.
For this recipe, you’ll need a whisk, wide bowl, frying pan, measuring spoons, measuring cups, and a spatula.
Ingredients (per person)
2 thick slices sour dough
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon icing sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla bean paste
1/4 cup mixed berries
1 tablespoon dollop cream
2-3 tablespoons maple syrup
1 tablespoon butter
Step 1: Whisk together in a wide bowl your egg, milk, cinnamon, icing sugar and vanilla bean paste.
Step 2: Soak the bread in the eggy mixture.
Step 3: While the bread is soaking, heat the butter until melted in a frying pan over a medium-high heat.
Step 4: Remove bread from the eggy mixture and fry on both sides in the melted butter.
Step 5: When golden brown on both sides, transfer from the frying pan onto a plate.
Step 6: Serve with berries, maple syrup and dollop cream.
